IMITATION OR THE REAL THING

The true beauty and character of traditional leaded lights and stained glass windows cannot be replaced or imitated with any other form of glazing. Many have tried and failed, with the self- adhesive lead strip and coloured film

Unfortunately, the lead strip is prone to peeling off the surface of the glass after a very short time, and the coloured film loses its colour when prone to direct sunlight. This form of imitation leading is relatively inexpensive, and is readily available at any ordinary glass company. We however at Libran Glass are firm believers in the saying, that you get what you pay for, and in traditional leaded lights, you get a product which lasts in the main for 60 to 70 years or more. In fact we have restored many panels that have been well over 100 years old.

COLOURED GLASS

With over 700 samples of the finest coloured and textured glass from all over the world, Libran Glass can create the perfect realization of your own ideas, or alternatively you can select from our design books which have 1000s of designs and patterns for you to look at either in our show room or in the comfort of your own home.

DOUBLE GLAZED UNITS

All our leaded lights whether they are newly manufactured, or restored panels can be incorporated within a double glazed unit. The leaded light itself sits in the cavity of the unit, so it is completely enclosed, which makes for better security, and easier cleaning, it will also help energy efficiency, with less heat loss. However it is not always possible to encapsulate a leaded light, due to the small rebates of older frames. It is a process which usually requires new frames to befitted, and rebates deep enough to accommodate a minimum of a 20mm double glazed unit.

WHAT TO DO NOW

If you are thinking about having new leaded lights made, or existing windows restored or repaired, Libran Glass offer a completely obligation free service, where we can either visit you at your home or any other preferred site, with a variety of glass samples and design books for you to peruse through. Alternatively you can visit our show room and workshops where you can sit and relax, have a cup of tea whilst looking through the design books, and watch some work in progress. Either way, we will be delighted to hear from you, and will offer you any advice you may need. We will of course assure you of our best attentions at all times.
